On June 23rd, 1914, Martial law was declared in Butte after rioting miners blew up the Miners’ Union Hall with dynamite from the Steward Mine. Peeking through the historic photo, you can see the Original Mine as well as the Miners Union Hall monument designed by Mark Reavis. The memorial includes an original granite step, which is in its original location and led to a doorway. The modern photo was taken on June 23rd, 2021, the 107th anniversary.
